Spiral in a productive direction by asking:

“What do you want from me, to listen, solve it, or something else?”  and/or
“What are you going to do to shift the situation?”

“What you’re supposed to do when you don’t like a thing is change it. If you can’t change it, change the way you think about it. Don’t complain.”
