Habits and routine blind us.  “When a habit emerges, the brain stops fully participating in decision making,” says Charles Duhigg in The Power of Habit.

Fresh eyes and energy
to engage a world seen anew
are opened by change.

I made a deliberate change 3-months ago and took a sabbatical from my beloved aikido practice.  This change in routine gave me fresh eyes to explore other possibilities…my world was illuminated outside my 23-year routine.  It was both fun and uncomfortable.

What did I gain?  I became crystal clear on my commitment to aikido with a renewed sense of engagement and commitment.

Don’t get me wrong, habits that serve you set you up for success. Yet, even good habits can benefit from taking a break!

What about you? What habits and routines do you have that might need fresh eyes?

My next change…to disconnect the T.V.  what about you?

 With honor,

 Karen
